This city is known to everyone who has ever landed in Fuerteventura. And this is because the airport is located here.
Puerto del Rosario is the capital of the island of Fuerteventura. Unlike other capitals of the Canary Islands (such as Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de la Palma or Santa Cruz de Tenerife), you will not find a flurry of places here that can surprise you. So what tourist attractions does this city hide? There are a few…
Playa Blanca and Playa Chica
A vacation in Puerto del Rosario is worth starting with a visit to the beach. Playa Blanca is ideal for this, located between the very center of the city and the airport. This main city beach consists of fine, light sand and offers excellent conditions for swimming.
The waves near the shore are not too big, so you can also come here with children. Good waves for surfing can be caught by sailing deeper into the sea. If you do not want to go too far from the center, you can go to Chica Beach (Playa Chica). It is not very large, but it is characterized by crystal clear and calm waters.
Casa Museo Miguel de Unamuno
The Miguel de Unamuno House-Museum is located in a 19th-century building in the very center of Puerto del Rosario. This famous Spanish writer and philosopher lived in this place from March to June 1924. Today, in the Casa Museo Miguel de Unamuno, we can see what the rooms, furniture and equipment he used every day looked like.
It is also worth taking an interest in the walls of the museum. There are texts by Unamuno on them, in which he wrote about Fuerteventura. In general, the museum itself may not be too spectacular, but if you value this Spanish artist, it is worth visiting here.
Fuerteventura Gran Karting
What about go-karts? It so happens that in Puerto del Rosario you will find a fairly large and professionally prepared go-kart track. Due to the speeds developed and sharp turns, remember that this is entertainment mainly for adults and slightly “older youth”.
Centro de Arte Juan Ismael
A little something for lovers of contemporary art. In the Centro de Arte Juan Ismael, exhibitions dedicated to contemporary Canary art await you. In addition to exhibitions, conferences, seminars and workshops are also held in this place. Its name, on the other hand, comes from the name of a well-known surrealist in Fuerteventura – Juan Ismael.
Puerto del Rosario as a starting point
For those who cannot sit still, Puerto del Rosario may turn out to be an excellent starting point to several other places on the island. Nearby you will find:
- Castillo Caleta de Guste – a city with a wonderful, wide (WIDE!) beach and two golf courses. Diving enthusiasts will find themselves in the Deep Blue Dive Center diving center.
- Puerto Lajas – a small town with a long beach with dark sand (Playa Las Lajas). It is rather unsuitable for sunbathing due to the numerous stones, but for a walk along the seashore – as much as possible!
- Tetir – this town is worth visiting if you want to bring delicious snacks from Fuerteventura. To do this, visit Quesos Tetir, where the most famous Fuerteventura cheeses are still produced in a traditional way! As a curiosity, it is worth adding that this company also produces other goat milk products, such as soaps or liqueurs.
