Teleférico Benalmádena is a popular cable car in Benalmádena, near Malaga. It was opened in 2000, and the ride to the top of Calamorro is just the beginning of the whole attraction.
The Teleférico Benalmádena station is located outside the strict city center, but you can easily get there by following the signs informing about the attraction. Up to four people can enter one car. The gondola travels a 3-kilometer route to a height of 769 meters, which is the peak of the Sierra de Mijas mountain range.
When reaching the top, we have three trekking trails to choose from, at the ends of which surprises await you. Each trail ends with a viewpoint facing in a different direction. Thanks to this, we can see the panorama of the Sierra Nevada with its snowy peaks, the famous Peñón de Gibraltar, or the Rock of Gibraltar, and with good visibility even the coast of Africa!
For avid cyclists, it may be useful information that for an additional fee you can take a bicycle to the top. At the upper station we will find tables to have a picnic and a cafe with snacks.
Teleférico Benalmádena and other attractions
An additional attraction of the Calamorro peak is the Valley of the Eagles (Valle de las Aguilas), where twice a day there are shows of birds of prey in their natural environment. We will see here the white-tailed eagle, buzzard or hawks. The shows are free and are held in two languages – English and Spanish.
In the summer, there are also shows and open to the public training of purebred Spanish horses, which are extremely popular and valued not only in Europe, but also around the world. During the event, training is presented in accordance with Andalusian methods and standards developed by equestrian experts!
