The best water parks in Spain - Siam Park’s Tower of Power, Benidorm’s capsule slides and a Wild West splash in Magaluf

Date:

Two weeks of sunshine, a car full of excited kids and more slides than you could ride in a lifetime. The real trick is knowing which park deserves the day.

Water parks in Spain come in every size, from compact town-centre splash zones to huge resorts with wave pools, lazy rivers and slides that drop you through a shark tank. The best water parks in Spain sit where British families already holiday: the Canary Islands, Mallorca, the Costa Blanca, the Costa Dorada and the Costa del Sol. In this article youโ€™ll find the parks worth planning a day around, what each one does best, when they open and a few tips that make a fun-filled day out much easier.

Weโ€™ve grouped the parks by region, so you can jump straight to the island or coast youโ€™re visiting. Each section links to our detailed guides, where youโ€™ll find more about tickets, the best rides and how to get there.

Best water parks in Spain at a glance

If you only have time for one park, these quick picks will point you in the right direction. Theyโ€™re based on the size of the park, the mix of attractions for different ages and how easy it is to reach from the main holiday resorts.

  • Best overall: Siam Park, Tenerife - the largest water park in the country, located in the south of the island, and a regular at the top of world rankings.
  • Best for thrill-seekers on the mainland: Aqualandia in Benidorm, home to one of Europeโ€™s tallest capsule slides.
  • Best for a resort holiday: Caribe Aquatic Park at PortAventura World, which you can combine with two theme parks.
  • Best on Mallorca: Western Water Park in Magaluf, with a Wild West theme and the islandโ€™s longest slide.
  • Best for younger children: Aqualava on Lanzarote, with shallow pools and heated water.

Canary Islands water parks

The Canary Islands are the easiest place in Spain to plan a water park day outside the summer holidays. The climate stays warm all year, so several parks open in winter too. That makes them a good fit for October half-term or an Easter break, when most parks on the mainland are closed.

Siam Park, Tenerife

Siam Park opened in Costa Adeje in 2008 and quickly became the benchmark for every other water park in Spain. It covers 18.5 hectares and is themed as a Thai kingdom, with temples, dragons and tropical gardens. The star ride is the Tower of Power, a near-vertical drop that shoots you through a transparent tube inside an aquarium full of sharks and rays. If that sounds like too much, the Mai Thai River offers a gentle float of around a kilometre.

The spectacular Wave Palace is the other headline act. Its waves reach about 3.3 metres, which makes it one of the biggest wave pools in the world. Siam Park has topped TripAdvisorโ€™s ranking of the worldโ€™s best water parks every year since 2014, so it gets busy. With restaurants, bars and shady places to rest, itโ€™s easy to spend a whole day here. Arrive when the gates open and head for the big slides first. Our Siam Park guide covers the fast pass, cabanas and the best time to visit. Many families pair it with Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz, which has the same owners and sells combined tickets.

Aqualand Costa Adeje, Tenerife

A few minutes up the hill from Playa de las Amรฉricas, Aqualand Costa Adeje is the smaller, more relaxed alternative on Tenerife. It has a wave pool, the Lava River for a lazy float of more than 500 metres, and thrill rides such as the Tsunami, Kamikazes and Twister Racer. Younger children get their own zones, including Pirate Island with a pirate ship to climb on.

Aqualand also has a dolphinarium, which adds a different kind of entertainment and sets it apart from other parks on the island. If youโ€™re staying near Costa Adeje and want a half-day out rather than a full expedition, itโ€™s an easy choice. For more ideas nearby, see our guide to Jungle Park, an animal park in the south of the island.

Aqualava and Aquapark Costa Teguise, Lanzarote

Lanzarote has two water parks, one at each end of the main holiday coast. Aqualava, in Playa Blanca, is themed around the islandโ€™s volcanoes. It has a saltwater wave pool, the Magma River float ride and looping slides called Timan Fire. Its pools are heated, which makes a real difference on a breezy day. Corsario Bay, a shallow pool with a giant octopus, keeps toddlers happy for hours.

Aquapark Costa Teguise, on the other side of the island, is older and more traditional. It has slides of different sizes, lazy rivers with rubber rings and an adults-only area with a hot tub. Our full guide to water parks in Lanzarote compares the two and explains how to reach them from Puerto del Carmen. If youโ€™re also visiting Timanfaya National Park, Aqualava is the closer of the two.

Acua Water Park, Fuerteventura

Acua Water Park is the only water park on Fuerteventura. Itโ€™s located on the edge of Corralejo in the north and covers about 25,000 square metres. Youโ€™ll find 17 attractions, including the Rapids, a dark tunnel slide, Kamikazes and a wave pool. From the top of the park you can see the island of Lobos and, on a clear day, Lanzarote across the strait.

Itโ€™s a compact park, so it works well with younger kids. Thereโ€™s a free car park and a bus service from several resorts. If youโ€™re staying in the south of the island, Oasis Park Fuerteventura, a big zoo and botanical garden near La Lajita, makes an easier family day out.

Aqualand Maspalomas, Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria has its main water park in the hills above Maspalomas. Aqualand Maspalomas has a good range of rides for all ages, from steep body slides to family rafts and childrenโ€™s pools. Itโ€™s a short drive or bus ride from Playa del Inglรฉs, so it fits easily into a beach holiday. Our guide to Maspalomas attractions covers the dunes, the lighthouse and other family days out nearby.

Mallorca water parks

Mallorca has three proper water parks, two in the south-west near Palma and one in the north. They open from late spring to early autumn, so check dates before you plan a May or October visit. Our round-up of water parks in Mallorca compares them in detail, while the sections below give you the essentials.

Western Water Park, Magaluf

Western Water Park is themed as a Wild West town, with saloons, cowboys and a fort. Its centrepiece is The Beast, a tower with four slides of different styles, including one of the tallest and steepest in Spain. The Gran Caรฑรณn is a 220-metre raft ride for up to four people and the longest slide on the island. The whole family gets plenty too, from the Tam Tam Splash wave pool to a KidzWorld zone with mini slides.

The park is a short walk from the Magaluf seafront and easy to reach by bus from Palma. If you want to stay next door, SOL by Meliรก Katmandรบ Park and Resort has its own splash zone and sits beside Katmandu Park.

Aqualand El Arenal

Aqualand El Arenal sits just behind the beach at Sโ€™Arenal, about 20 minutes east of Palma. Its slides include King Cobra, Tsunami, Tornado and the Crazy Race. Thereโ€™s also a large pool area for little ones, so it works for mixed-age groups. Because itโ€™s so close to Palma airport, itโ€™s a handy option on the first or last day of a holiday.

Hidropark Alcรบdia

Hidropark is the only water park in the north of Mallorca. Itโ€™s in Port dโ€™Alcรบdia and covers more than 40,000 square metres. Youโ€™ll find slides, a wave pool, giant water balls to walk on and a 54-hole mini golf course. Itโ€™s calmer and smaller than the large water parks near Palma, which suits younger children. If youโ€™re based in Alcรบdia, our guide to family hotels in Mallorca lists places to stay within walking distance of the beach and the park.

Mainland Spain water parks

On the mainland, the big water parks follow the coast. The Costa Blanca, Costa Dorada and Costa Brava each have a park that draws visitors from all over Spain. The Costa del Sol and Madrid have good options too. Most mainland parks open from late May or June to early September, so they suit a summer holiday rather than a spring break.

Aqualandia in Benidorm, one of the oldest water parks in Spain
Aqualandia in Benidorm, one of the oldest water parks in Spain

Aqualandia, Benidorm

Aqualandia opened in 1985 on the slopes of the Sierra Helada and is one of the oldest water parks in Spain. It has more than 15 attractions, but most people come for the excitement of the Verti-Go. These capsule slides are 28 and 33 metres high, and the floor drops away beneath you before you plunge almost vertically. Big Bang is a set of four slides with different heights and slopes, so you can race your friends.

Aqualandia opens daily from late May to late September. Families with three or more children and single-parent families can claim a discount at the ticket office. Benidorm also has Aqua Natura, a smaller park next to Terra Natura, and the amusement park Terra Mรญtica, so itโ€™s easy to fill a week. Our guide to Costa Blanca attractions has more ideas along this coast.

Caribe Aquatic Park, PortAventura World

Caribe Aquatic Park is part of the PortAventura World resort near Salou, about an hour south of Barcelona. It covers around 50,000 square metres and is themed as a Caribbean island, with real palm trees and a pool with a white-sand beach edge. The King Khajuna is one of Europeโ€™s tallest slides at 31 metres. Families with toddlers will like Sรฉsamo Beach and the new Coral Bay area.

The water park has its own ticket, separate from PortAventura Park and Ferrari Land. Multi-day tickets let you mix all three, which is the best value if youโ€™re staying for a few nights. If youโ€™d rather explore the coast as well, Roman Tarragona is only 15 minutes away.

Water World, Lloret de Mar

Water World opened in July 1985, just outside Lloret de Mar on the Costa Brava. It has 16 water slides, three childrenโ€™s areas and a wave pool. The newest ride, Tornado King, opened in 2025 as a five-seat tube slide with two huge half-pipes. X-Trem Mountain is a water coaster for older kids and adults, while Storm is a pair of steep body slides that end in a big splash.

The park sells a fast pass that lets you skip the queues for the most popular rides, which is worth considering in August. Free buses run from Lloret and several nearby resorts, including Tossa de Mar.

Aqualand Torremolinos, Costa del Sol

Aqualand Torremolinos is the best-known water park on the Costa del Sol, a short drive from Mรกlaga airport. Its Adrenaline Fun zone includes Anaconda and Boomerang, which drops 15 metres before throwing you up a near-vertical wall. Kidsworld and a family wave pool make it easy to keep everyone happy in a mixed-age group. If youโ€™re staying in Benalmรกdena or Fuengirola, you can reach it by train or bus in under half an hour.

Aquรณpolis Villanueva, Madrid

Madrid isnโ€™t on the coast, but in July and August the city is often hotter than the beaches. Aquรณpolis Villanueva, in Villanueva de la Caรฑada about 30 km west of the centre, covers around 110,000 square metres. It mixes high-speed slides and float rides with a childrenโ€™s area full of splash buckets and mini slides. Itโ€™s a good break from museums on a city holiday. Find more ideas in our guide to Madrid attractions.

What is the biggest water park in Spain?

Siam Park in Tenerife is the largest water park in Spain at 18.5 hectares. On the mainland, Aqualandia in Benidorm and Aquรณpolis Villanueva near Madrid are among the biggest. If the rides matter more to you than size, Caribe Aquatic Park has one of the tallest slides in Europe and the bonus of two theme parks next door.

Spain also has smaller waterparks in almost every coastal region, from Isla Mรกgicaโ€™s Agua Mรกgica in Seville to the water park at Illa Fantasia near Barcelona. Theyโ€™re great for a few hours, but they donโ€™t have the range of attractions and facilities youโ€™ll find at the parks in this article.

Is Siam Park better than Aqualand?

For most visitors, yes. Siam Park is larger, has more headline rides and a much bigger wave pool. Itโ€™s also better themed, with gardens and buildings that make the day feel like a trip in itself. Aqualand Costa Adeje is smaller, usually less crowded and more relaxed, so it suits younger children or a half-day visit. If you have a week on Tenerife and love water parks, you could do both.

When are water parks in Spain open?

Most water parks on the mainland and the Balearic Islands open from late May or June to early or mid-September. A few open at weekends in May. Canary Islands parks are different. Siam Park opens every day of the year, and others on the islands open for most of the year with shorter hours in winter.

School holidays bring the biggest crowds, especially in late July and August. If you can, visit on a weekday and avoid local public holidays. Opening hours usually run from 10am to 5pm or 6pm, with longer hours in high summer, so check the parkโ€™s opening times before you set off.

Tips for a better day at a Spanish water park

A little planning saves a lot of time in queues. Here are the tips weโ€™d give any family visiting Spainโ€™s water parks for the first time.

  • Book tickets online in advance. Youโ€™ll skip the ticket queue, and many parks sell a limited number of entries on busy days.
  • Arrive early. The first hour is the quietest time for the big slides. By midday, queues for the top rides get long.
  • Grab a locker first. Lockers fill up fast in summer. Keep phones, cards and car keys inside, not in your beach bag.
  • Consider a fast pass. Siam Park, Water World and other big parks sell queue-jump passes. Theyโ€™re worth it on peak days or if you only have one visit.
  • Check height limits. Thrill slides often have a minimum height of around 1.20 metres. Measure your children before you promise them the biggest rides.
  • Pack water shoes and sun cream. Paths get hot in the afternoon sun. Reapply sun cream every couple of hours, because youโ€™ll wash it off on every slide.
  • Read the food rules. Some parks let you bring your own food and drink, others only allow snacks or baby food. All the big parks have restaurants and kiosks where you can eat. If someone in your group has food allergies, check before you go.
  • Ask about accessibility. Most large parks have access for visitors with reduced mobility and some offer reduced prices or a companion ticket.

Many parks are easiest to reach by car, especially Aquรณpolis, Aqualandia and the parks on the islands. Car hire also lets you leave when the little ones get tired, rather than waiting for a shuttle bus.

Water parks and theme parks - plan a combined trip

Some of Spainโ€™s best water parks sit right next to big theme parks, which makes them ideal for a family holiday. In Salou, PortAventura Park, Ferrari Land and Caribe Aquatic Park share one resort. In Benidorm, Aqualandia is close to Terra Mรญtica, Mundomar and other popular attractions. On Tenerife, the combined Siam Park and Loro Parque ticket covers two of the islandโ€™s most popular attractions.

If your children love animals as well as slides, add a zoo or aquarium to the plan. The Barcelona Aquarium, Bioparc Valencia and Selwo Marina are all good choices for a cooler day.

Hotels near the best water parks in Spain

Staying close to a water park saves time and lets you go back for a second visit. These three hotels suit different budgets and are close to three of the parks in this article.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Apartamentos Tabaiba

These simple apartments in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, are about a 10-minute walk from Aquapark Costa Teguise. Each one has a kitchen, so you can cook your own meals and keep the holiday budget in check. There are two pools, and the beach and promenade are a short stroll away. Itโ€™s a good base for families who want space without paying resort prices.

๐Ÿจ PortAventura Hotel Caribe

This Caribbean-themed hotel sits inside the PortAventura World resort, a short walk from Caribe Aquatic Park. Guests get unlimited access to PortAventura Park and one visit to Ferrari Land, which takes care of the theme park days. Rooms are spread across colourful buildings around pools and tropical gardens. Itโ€™s ideal if you want to spend several days on rides and slides with minimal travel.

๐Ÿ’Ž Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife

This five-star resort in Adeje overlooks the Atlantic and is about 15 minutes by car from Siam Park. It has several large pools, a spa and a choice of restaurants, so the hotel itself offers plenty of entertainment for kids and adults. Rooms are modern and bright, many with sea views. Itโ€™s a great choice if you want a luxury base for Siam Park, Aqualand and the beaches of southern Tenerife.
